The LN01A speakers don’t disappoint in the sound department, delivering a bold and engaging performance regardless of the audio source. When streaming via Bluetooth, the speakers impress with their solid and upfront character. Listening to some old school ‘No Doubt’, the FX laden electric guitar riffs come alive, and the drum strikes hit with impactful precision. The speakers effortlessly handle the building layers of instrumentation, providing controlled pace and rhythmic accuracy. Although the treble might be slightly pronounced in an open setting, placing them closer to a wall balances the sound, while their bass prowess adds a surprising low-end punch for their size. What’s missing in comparison to larger speakers is musical weight. Small woofers can only move so much air in a room. And it’s churlish to expect more than you get. In use, all the electronics and amplification built into the right speaker connect to the passive left speaker via a supplied 3-metre cable. Where the Elaras ensure Dandelion Wine by Gregory Alan Isakov and the Colorado Symphony sounds impressively substantial and imposing, the Audioengines retort with a more intimate, albeit restrained, rendition.

And … my old system would be much more expensive if its buying price were translated into today’s money. They’d be a cinch to transport. And the features on offer such as an inbuilt phono stage and Bluetooth connectivity, it’s light years ahead of those on my Garrard/Armstrong/Goodman’s audio system. The Elara’s are very compact and measure 291mm high, 165mm wide and 291mm deep. The right speaker with the amplifier and electronics weighs 5.05kgs, and the left speaker is 4.5kgs. A close squiz reveals it has a high standard of finish and that it will play 33 and 45 rpm records.Though manufactured in China, the Elara LN01A is designed in France, so I thought I’d start with a staple of the French orchestral repertoire: Ravel’s La Valse, in a concert recording by Les Siècles under the direction of François-Xavier Roth (24-bit/44.1kHz FLAC, Harmonia Mundi/Qobuz). Based in France, Les Siècles specializes in late romantic and early modernist classical music, using instruments and performance practices typical of those eras. Over the last year or so, speaker manufacturers have rushed into the active speaker market, and after listening to several models I have softened on the idea. While I actually like the exercise of system matching, I can definitely see the benefits of buying a pre-matched setup. Which raises the question: what would we have paid to enjoy the convenience of Bluetooth in the 70s? Plenty, allow me to assure you. Of course, powered speakers such as the Elaras aren’t just for the young. While they’ll work beautifully in a college dorm or a teenager’s bedroom, they’ll serve grown-up music-lovers equally well as a secondary system for a home office or den.

A quality loudspeaker for just € 390? Lionel Payne, in his first review for Hifi Pig, takes a listen to the Triangle Elara LN01 Loudspeakers Playing a variety of content including the evening news, sports events, movies and of course, an endless number of ads, the family’s verdict was the Elara’s enhanced each program. When it comes to streaming, the Triangle AIO app for Apple iOS and Google Android is available to play your own content or that offered via services such as Spotify, Deezer, Qobuz and TIDAL. Internet radio and podcasts are also available. Multiroom audio streaming via Linkplay technology Ultimately, the Triangles are in good shape to satisfy anyone looking for a convenient, space-saving system solution that plays ball with almost any source. Which is not to say that the Elaras don’t go loud. They do. Or that they sound small, ‘cos they don’t, especially when they’re used in a compact room. By the way, storage media can also be used directly as a source; a corresponding USB port is located on the rear panel. This can also be used for charging a mobile device. Integration into the network via cable and WiFi For the past couple of decades, the audio industry has been angsting about how to get young listeners interested in hi-fi. It’s not that teens and twentysomethings don’t love music; it’s that their musical lives revolve around smartphones, headphones, maybe a Bluetooth speaker. How can they be introduced to the joys of listening to real stereo from real hi-fi speakers?

A very important aspect in the development of the Triangle AIO TWIN Speakers was an outstanding design. Not only the proverbial French esprit is relied on, but also the cooperation with the Scandinavian specialist Gabriel, who are responsible for the textile covering of the loudspeaker grill. For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned here that an external subwoofer can also be connected via a corresponding cinch output. Next up was Glenn Gould’s 1981 recording of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations (LP, CBS Masterworks IM37770). Again, piano tone in the lower octaves was a little muddy, but the middle and upper registers sounded lovely -- natural and extended, but not hyperdetailed, so that Gould’s crisp trills and runs were really well articulated. What most impressed me was how the little Triangles handled sudden dynamic shifts. For example, after the serene opening Aria, Variation 1 explodes with joy and abandon. The Elara LN01As did full justice to this moment.

Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. There is also a sub output which is full range, you’ll have to use the crossover on your sub to blend the output with your speakers. A 60-70 Hz cut off is recommended. There is also a volume knob on the rear of the speaker. Before I played any music, I set the volume to a moderately loud level, selected the phono input, and listened for noise and hum. With my ear 6” from the left speaker’s tweeter, I could hear a very faint hiss -- any farther away and I heard no noise. The Elara is said to have a power output of 50-watts and a frequency response of 56-20,000 Hz measured at one metre +/-3dB. Drivers built into the Elara are a 25mm silk dome tweeter crossing over to a 135mm woofer that has a treated paper cone. The tweeter uses a Neodymium magnet.

What To Think About

As the guitars introduced the opening lyrics and Reed’s quizzical opening vocals declaring he “doesn’t know where he’s going”, it becomes clear that the vinyl version is much more dramatic than the one that’s streamed. The feature set of my in-laws’ Totem Kin Plays is virtually identical to that of the Triangle Elara LN01As. The two models’ driver complements are also similar, but the Kin Plays are larger, with more powerful amplification. The two-way Kin Play is a rear-ported speaker with a 5” natural fiber woofer and a 1” metal-dome tweeter. The left channel serves as the primary speaker, and houses the single 120Wpc amplifier that powers both speakers.
