This resource can be used in the school corridor as a way of getting children to think about and interact with maths outside of the classroom and to let children get a sense of how big 1000 is. The school gave my 4 year old a 1-10 set of these to keep in their book bag to use at home until the end of the school year. Our curated collection of Numicon shapes is designed to foster a love of numbers and learning in early years children. The single box of Numicon Shapes 1-10 is designed for teachers and parents of children aged 3 and above to allow a child to have a set of shapes to lay out in front of them and use to respond to questions in class teaching, or when doing Numicon activities at home. It can be adapted to play games eg matching Numicon with object such as apples, pebbles etc, domino dot cards and number cards (home-made). They’re a really effective way of improving your child’s addition and subtraction skills, because they help children to visualise the calculation. You’ll find helpful tips on how to extend many of these activities on our Numicon activities: partner videos playlist.
